"Certainty" (TOS)

A drabble-and-a-half for halotolerant.

Title: Certainty
Fandom: Star Trek (TOS)
Character: Leonard McCoy
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Word count: 150
Summary: McCoy has just passed his med school final exams.

McCoy's not sure how long he's been drunk. A two-day bender, he promised himself if he passed the exams. But he lost his watch a few bars ago. Same place he left his hypoglossal and vestibulocochlear nerves, maybe.

McCoy's not sure he's still in Jackson, or even still on earth. That song from the next table might just be in Klingon.

But he's very sure he needs another drink. As he hauls himself up, somebody he almost recognizes grabs his arm and says, "Gimme a whiskey sour, Len."

"Not a cocktail waitress." McCoy starts to shove the hand away, but it's helping him balance, so he leaves it. "'m a . . . 'm a doctor."

The musical Klingons sound like angels, and McCoy decides he'll buy this person who seems to know him all the whiskey he can drink.

He loves the whole goddamn universe.

He's a doctor.
